Friday Music Shuffle 12/8

by Rick Johansen

Welcome my friends to the show that never ends. For my delectation and probably not yours, here, live from my man cave, is this week’s Friday iPod shuffle.

Yer tiz, then.

1. Show Business by AC/DC. From ’74 Jailbreak, this is basically Status Quo with Bon Scott on vocals and sounds as much like modern day AC/DC as Black Lace.

2. Fire In The Cockpit by Public Service Broadcasting. The impossibly excellent PSB with a track from The Race for Space.

3. Cousin Norman by the Marmalade. One of the most underrated bands ever. And this is lovely.

4. Sex Machine by James Brown. This is from one of Tom Middleton’s Trip compilations and it’s got a disco backing. Incredible.

5. Amsterdam by Scott Walker. Yes, THAT Amsterdam written by Jacques Brel and this is the greatest version.

6. I Got The News by Steely Dan. The best Dan album is Aja and this tune is from that album.

7. Someday Never Comes by Creedence Clearwater Revival. The final years of Creedence were not to pleasant to watch but this classic from Mardi Gras was sure great to hear. One of my favourite Fogerty tunes with deeply moving lyrics.

8. Holding Back The Years by Simply Red. Classic Simply Mick, this.

9. Let’s Get Married by the Proclaimers. Nuff said.

10. Love Minus Zero/No Limit by Bob Dylan. From the 2005 reissue of Concert for Bangladesh.
