Friday 20th May Jukebox

by Rick Johansen

Don’t get too excited: it’s only my Friday morning random music shuffle, courtesy of my iPod. So let’s start with:

1. Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. “Cos I am as free as a bird now and this bird you cannot change.” ‘Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd’ is far more than just Freebird, but even if it wasn’t it would still be worth buying.

2. Add Some Music To Your Day by the Beach Boys. A live version of this beauty from the band’s best album, Sunflower.* No Brian, but Carl, Al and Mike are here and it’s gorgeous. (* Pet Sounds was the best album released by the Beach Boys, but really, wasn’t it mainly Brian?)

3. So Not Over You by Simply Red. It’s Simply Mick, isn’t it? Fantastic voice, nice little tune this.

4. You Wear The Sun by Delays. If you don’t own the mighty Faded Seaside Glamour, I’m coming for you. One of the most underrated albums ever, but not by me. Just washes over you.

5. Look On by Lisa Mychols. Love this girl. Lost Winter’s Dream features various Wondermints and it’s heavenly.

6. White Sun by the Doobie Brothers. From Toulouse Street, released in 1972.

7. Never Give In by The Streets. Everything is Borrowed is the album. Mike Skinner actually sings here and it’s lush.

8. Mrs Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel. 1968, 19 bloody 68. Ever seen The Graduate? You should.

9. Fly Like An Eagle by the Steve Miller Band. Title track of my favourite Miller album. Mint.

10. In Any Tongue by David Gilmour. Rattle That Lock showing the old boy has lost none of his powers.
