Follow the leader

Political party leadership election campaigns rarely deliver the result you expect. Last year’s Labour Party election not only didn’t deliver the result people expected, party members collectively took leave of their senses by electing career backbencher Jeremy Corbyn. It’s not unusual. John Major, Margaret Thatcher and Ed Miliband all came from left or in the terms of the first two right field to seize the crown. Do not expect anything different in the current Tory Party leadership campaign.

Conventional wisdom suggests Theresa May, the safe pair of hands, will stroll the Tory leadership election with something to spare. Michael Gove’s treachery will surely ensure he never gets the top job and Mr Crabb, who wants to cure gay people from being gay and opposed equal marriage, is merely putting down a marker for next time. And who the hell is Ms Leadsom, anyway?

Our Andrea is a typical Tory, a grammar school person who went to Uni and then worked in high finance. She’s on the right of the Tory Party (who isn’t?), abstained on equal marriage (she bowed to religious fanaticism) and she’s a tax dodger. Oh, and she hates Europe. Put simply, she’s going to win. She’s our next prime minister.

Leadsom may not win, of course, but I have a hunch that she will. Don’t forget that May was on the losing side, even if she kept her mouth shut throughout the campaign to prepare the ground for a subsequent leadership election (my guess, but an educated one).

If May was calculating enough to keep her views to herself in support of the greater personal good, she’s no better than shysters like Johnson, Gove and Farage and I can’t say worse than that. Who stays quiet when the future of the country is up for debate? And anyway, as Britain has chosen to leave the EU, how could the Tories possibly choose a remainer to conduct negotiations to leave?

We’re on our way to hell in a handcart anyway if in a few weeks we are left with Leadsom against the pathetic remnants of Jeremy Corbyn who is currently leading Labour to oblivion.

What a prospect. Are Leave supporters happy with the idea of Leadsom leading negotiations to quit the EU or would they prefer Michael Gove or even Liam Fox? This is important. You asked to take control so to whom do you wish to delegate responsibility to regain it? And what do you want to take control of?

Unless you are part of the blue rinse brigade in the shires, you will have no say at all, so good luck with that one.

Leadsom is going to win, though, and be the next PM. And if you weren’t worried before, you will be now. Boris Johnson, the man who wrecked our country, is supporting her.
