Firsts lose at Frampton Cotterell

by Rick Johansen

Dan Dunt’s 60-odd was not enough to prevent the Gifford’s first XI lose at Frampton Cotterell.

The home side rattled up 211 which Dunt’s elderly father John described as “getable”.

Five Bellies was on a hat trick at one point but true to form his bowling deteriorated late on with a series of very wide slower balls.

Henry Winterman took a wicket but his civil partner Nigel took one difficult catch but then spilled a far simpler one as a year on the lash at Uni seemed to have dulled his reflexes.

The village fell about 40 runs short in their reply.  They may have done it when Winterman (24) and Nigel (19) put on 45 for the last wicket but predictably Nigel holed-out when well set.

Man of the match – Fraser Moron who, for once, was able to field without a blinding hangover and took a few decent catches.
