Not before time, Maria Sharapova is facing a lengthy ban from tennis. What has happened is totally unacceptable. It’s a form of cheating and she is not alone. Stop grunting.
The fact that she has owned up to taking a banned substance called meldonium is the excuse the authorities need to remove Sharapaova from the sport during which she sounds like she is having an orgasm with every point. If this really happened, I’d have started playing years ago.
I would also like to ban her American accent. She’s Russian, not American, but she sounds like the All American Girl these days. Has she had lessons to not sound like where she comes from?
She’s probably not the only elite athlete taking substances of one kind or another. Almost all of them take ‘legal’ supplements in order to enhance their performances. Sometimes it is very hard to work out the difference between legal and illegal drugs. I wonder if it has occurred to the authorities that they should ban all of them?
Sharapova was very smart pleading guilty in public before the news got out because, temporarily should owned the story. But now it’s out there and she’s going to be banned. She could be banned for up to four years and I’d ban her for at least for that long just for the grunting, perhaps adding a few extra years for drug offences.
