The Friday Music Shuffle (30th October 2026)

Only a month and a bit to go before winter starts special edition

by Rick Johansen

Good day everyone and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. Just a month and a day to go and it will be winter, so if you think it’s grim now, just wait until December. So, let’s not get too down about things and instead listen to some music.

Yes, the Friday Music Shuffle is here again. My music machine chooses ten random songs from my collection and I tell you, dear reader and listener, what it’s chosen. And thanks to the magic of the internet, you can listen and even sing along just by clicking on the song title. So why not join me? You might even find something you like.

Here we go.

  1. Silver Soul by Beach House. And what a start, the gorgeous dreamy music from this great band from USA USA USA. This from 2010’s Teen Dream.
  2. Fog On The Tyne by Lindisfarne. Simply magnificent homage to the band’s home toon, Newcastle, and the title track of 1971’s Fog On The Tyne. Main man Alan Hull was a true genius and one of Britain’s finest songwriters. “We can swing together. We can have a wee-wee. We can have a wet on the wall.” You can’t beat that, can you?
  3. Here It’s Almost Sunset by David Crosby. Croz’s productive late career renaissance was a joy to behold. 2017’s Sky Trails as up there with the best of his solo work, which is where this lovely song comes from.
  4. You Make Me Feel So Young by Frank Sinatra (Live at the Sands). Back to 1966, this is amazing. The album Live At The Sands is simply essential.
  5. Green Coaster by The High Llamas. They should have been massive. This is how the Beach Boys might have sounded had Brian Wilson stayed healthy. From 1999’s Snowbug. Love it.
  6. Mambo Sun by T. Rex. Back to 1971, rock’s finest year, for this little gem from Marc Bolan’s best album by miles, the great Electric Warrior.
  7. Almost There by Andy Williams. Back to 1965 now and one of my favourite Andy Williams’ songs.
  8. Give Us A Clue by The Producers. We’re in 2012 now for a lovely song from Trevor Horn’s supergroup The Producers. The 2012 LP Made In Basing Street is absolutely great and this song is an example of why. (The song has nothing to do with the popular television show starring Michael Aspel, Lionel Blair and Una Stubbs (one for the teenagers, there).
  9. The Heathen by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Well, it’s great. From 1977’s Exodus.
  10. Garden Of Flowers by The Producers. Well, how often does this happen, a track from another album already featured in today’s shuffle? Yes, Made In Basing Street. Very Buggles and a bit of Yes from our Trev and I can’t wait to see him at the Bristol Beacon in December.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number ten song Garden Of Flowers by The Producers.

Hope you played along. I loved it.

Have a good week till next week.
