Sunshine greetings, pop-pickers, and a warm welcome to this week’s Friday Music Shuffle. What happens is this. My music machine selects ten random tracks from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. The idea, for you, my loyal reader, is that you switch up the volume on your device, click on the song title and listen/sing along. And mainly, I hope you find something you like.
Let’s rock.
- Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon. Back to 1977 for the theme from The Spy Who Loved Me. My mum adored this song, although I don’t rate it among Carly’s finest work.
- Underground by Fun Lovin’ Criminals. 2001’s Loco is my favourite FLC album and this is lovely.
- Just The Way You Are by Billy Joel. And we go back again to 1977 for this Joel classic culled from his album The Stranger.
- The Entertainer by Billy Joel. Blimey, Billy again, this time with a less than stellar joint from his 1974 long player Streetlife Serenade.
- Do Something Useful by North Atlantic Oscillation. Some marvellous electronic prog from their splendid 2014 album The Third Day.
- It’s My House by Diana Ross. Released in 1979, this Ashford and Simpson tune later appeared on a Motown Chartbusters album, which can be the only reason why I have it in my collection. Controversial view: Ms Ross was seriously overrated and the Supremes were much better without her.
- Play In The Rain by Lindsey Buckingham. Seriously brilliant by the Fleetwood Mac man from his 1985 album Go Insane.
- Guilty Of The Crime by The Eagles. Written by the magnificent Frankie Miller and Jerry Lynn Williams, this Joe Walsh led song is one of few saving graces on the band’s bang average 2007 album Long Road Out Of Eden.
- I Get Around by The Beach Boys. It’s not getting any better. One of my least favourite Beach Boys songs.
Given that all these songs are in my collection, I’m not going to deny that this is a highly uninspiring shuffle. This week’s Desert Island Disc is Jeepster by T. Rex, which would have been the 11th song.
That’s all, folks. Have a good week till next week.
