The Friday Music Shuffle (23rd October 2026)

Greetings pop-pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle.

As per usual, it’s ten songs chosen at random by my music device, I’ll tell you what they are and your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to turn on your speakers, click on the song title and listen along.

I do hope you play along. You never know, you may even find something you like.

Let’s go!

1. Ecstasy by The Raspberries. Eric Carmen’s legendary popular beat combo outfit with a bit of filler from 1973. It’s okay, but not classic Raspberries.
2. Old Times Good Times by Stephen Stills. Fine stuff from Stephen’s eponymous album of 1970. This song features one James Marshall Hendrix on guitar.
3. Wasted On The Way by Crosby, Stills and Nash. Beautiful Graham Nash song from 1982’s Daylight Again. Eagle to be Timothy B. Schmit sings back-up vocals.
4. Hold Me by Weezer. Now we’re back in 2005 with a joint from the very good Make Believe LP. Classic Weezer, this, with quiet, melodic verses and loud crashing rock in the chorus. Nice.
5. Rockin’ In The Free World by Neil Young. Stone cold classic from Shakey, from his 1989 album Freedom.
6. I Love You, Honeybear by Father John Misty. Title track of Father John’s (Josh Tillman’s) 2015 album of the same name.
7. Speedway At Nazareth by Mark Knopfler. Controversial view, perhaps, but I happen to think 2000’s Sailing To Philadelphia was Knopfler’s finest album, so naturally this track is great, too.
8. I Had A Dream Last Night by The M.F.Q. (Modern Folk Quartet). 1968 now for a lovely song that comes from a great album I bought last year called I See You Live On Love Street (Music From Laurel Canyon 1967-1975).  It’s a splendid record.
9. That Someone Is You by R.E.M. 2011 and a banger from the band’s final album Collapse Into Now. Of course, it’s great.
10. B.Y.S. by Gang Starr. I can barely believe that this fantastic track from the Daily Operation album harks back to 1992. So, so good.

A pretty damn fine run of music there. This week’s Desert Island Disc is Wasted On The Way by Crosby, Stills and Nash.

I hope you enjoyed the music. Have a good week till next week.
