The Friday Music Shuffle (13.2.26)

East Sussex Special and it's a day early

by Rick Johansen

Sunshine greetings from East Sussex and welcome to this special edition of the music shuffle.

It’s oh so fun. What happens is that my music machine selects ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to click on the song title and listen along. I hope you find something you like!

  1. September Grass by James Taylor. Lovely tune from James’ excellent 2002 LP October Road.
  2. Look At Me by Todd Rundgren feat. Michael Holman. Ever the innovator, here’s Todd with a banger from 2017’s White Knight.
  3. Your Music by Intenso feat. Laura Jay. Cracking old skool house from back in the day.
  4. Can’t Get You Out Of My Head by Kylie Minogue. Back to 2001 for a pop classic from the Princess of Aussie pop, albeit with a bonkers American accent. Perfect pop.
  5. Time by Lindsey Buckingham. From the great man’s outstanding 2021 album Lindsey Buckingham. The album is as good as, if not better than, most Fleetwood Mac albums.
  6. Lookin’ Out My Back Door by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Some sixties joy from the great John Fogerty and his band
  7. Nous Vous Demandons Pardon by Stereolab. Love this one from 2008’s superb Chemical Chords long player.
  8. New York Minute by Don Henley. Brilliant from Henley’s outstanding 1989 album End Of The Innocence.
  9. The Out Of Work Clown by Talc. Absolutely fantastic by the short-lived cross between Steely Dan and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. From 2008’s indispensable Licenced Premises Lifestyle. If you ever see this record, then buy it.
  10. Desoleil (Brilliant Corners) by Loyle Corner & Sampha. Gorgeous joint from 2019’s Not Waving, But Drowning.

After last week’s less than inspiring shuffle, this is a good one. Plenty to choose from for my Desert Island Disc but I will plump for The Out Of Work Clown by Talc.

Have a good week till net week.
