Toni Watola – a tribute

by Rick Johansen

And so farewell Toni Watola, who has (been?) retired as Bristol Rovers’ chief operating officer.

A saying I am very fond of repeating is that if you have nothing good to say about anyone, then say nothing at all. I cannot think of anything good to say about Mr Watola, but then neither can anyone else, so this will be a very short article.

According to his Linkedin page, Mr Watola was general manager of Dale Farm from 1990 to 1994. I didn’t know he had links to the travelling community in Basildon, but it seems to have prepared him well for life at Bristol Rovers, where his new employers were equally incapable of building things.

Known for his hilarious catchphrase, “Probably up until the very last game of the season we felt it would be close, but we’d be okay”, Mr Watola will be greatly missed by the pasty seller.

So, it’s goodbye from me and good riddance to him.
