When I find myself in times of trouble, it’s often music that comes to me, or perhaps I go to music. As a grim week comes to an end, with an actual dictator about to lead the free world, I need music more than ever. And so it is that I go once again to my weekly music shuffle.
If you’ve never seen and heard it before, I set my music device to shuffle and it chooses ten songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. I genuinely hope you will click on the song title and listen along with me because, you never know, you may find something you like. I hope so.
So let’s go deaf together. Welcome to the music shuffle.
- Street Fighting Man by The Rolling Stones. Back to 1968 for this absolute classic.
- Disappointing Diamonds Are the Rarest of Them All by Father John Misty. Great joint from the good Father’s 2018 long player God’s Favourite Customer.
- Suite: Judy Blue Eyes by Crosby, Stills and Nash. The most beautiful CSN song from 1969’s Crosby, Stills and Nash LP.
- A Whiter Shade Of Pale by Fun Lovin’ Criminals. An astonishing version of the Procol Harum classic, from 2018’s Another Mimosa.
- Harvest Breed by Nick Drake. Such a talent, such a tragic loss. This from 1972’s beautiful Pink Moon.
- Tucson Train by Bruce Springsteen. 2019’s Western Stars may turn out to be Springsteen’s last great album. This is certainly a great song.
- The Lady Killer Theme by Cee Lo Green. More than slightly bonkers but still rather nice.
- Cool Cool Water by The Beach Boys. The Boys finest group album is regarded by many as being 1970’s Sunflower. It’s certainly brilliant and this track is gorgeous.
- Greece 2000 by Three Drives. Some classic Trance here from back in the day.
- Tunnel Of Love by Bruce Springsteen. Vintage Springsteen from his album of the same name in 1987.
Some belters here but this week’s Desert Island Disc is actually quite easy. It’s Suite: Judy Blue Eyes by Crosby, Stills and Nash. Of course it is.
Hope you listened to at least a few of these tunes and enjoyed them, too.
Have a good week till next week.
