Greetings pop-pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. It’s that fun-packed time of the week when I set my music device free and it chooses ten songs from my collection. Then I tell you what it’s chosen.
Please join in and click on the song title to listen and even sing along. I’m sure you will find something you like (possibly).
Let’s crack on.
- Cottonfields (The Cotton Song) by The Beach Boys. We start by going back to 1970 for an old Lead ‘Goodnight Irene’ Belly tune.
- Your Auntie Grizelda by The Monkees. A rare Peter Tork lead vocal from this joint taken from 1967’s More Of The Monkees LP. More than a bit bonkers, this.
- Read The Room by The Smile. From 2024’s Wall Of Eyes, Thom Yorke’s side project The Smile make the most brilliant music. Love it.
- Live Let Live by Brian Wilson. Everything is right about this song, in terms of harmonies and musicianship. The problem is the song, which is pretty grim, as is the album, That Lucky Old Sun, which Brian mistakenly released in 2008.
- Good Golly Miss Molly by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Rock and roll classic from the band’s superb 1968 album Bayou Country.
- Sailor Ain’t A Sailor by Fisherman’s Friends. Lovely old sea shanty from the Port Isaac boys.
- Love Me by The Bee Gees. 1976 and a sweet Bee Gees tune from the Children Of The World album. I wish Barry was on lead rather than Robin, though.
- Echoes by Pink Floyd. Classic, and very long, track from 1971’s Meddle.
- T.O.R.N.A.D.O. by The Go! Team. Absolute banger from the Brighton crew, from 2011’s superb Rolling Blackouts.
- Angie by The Rolling Stones. And finally, we’re in 1973 for this Stones classic from Goats Head Soup.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is Good Golly Miss Molly by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Well, that was fun. Hope you listened along with me.
Have a good week till next week.
