The Friday Music Shuffle (21.6.24)

by Rick Johansen

In the memorable words of legendary glam rocker and paedophile Gary Glitter, “Did you miss me, when I was away?” For all manner of technical reasons, I didn’t publish a music shuffle when we were away sunning ourselves. So, hello, hello, it’s good to be back with the Friday Music Shuffle.

10 sings from my collection, chosen at random by my music device, and I tell you what it’s chosen. I hope you listen and sing along, something you can do simply by clicking on the title. You might even find something you like. I hope so.

Anyway, hey ho. Let’s go.

  1. Just Feel Better by Santana feat Steven Tyler. From Santana’s 2005 collaborations album All That I Am. Decent.
  2. Swaying by Vetiver. Lush tune from 2019’s Up On High.
  3. Such A Shame by The Thorns. This band made just one album, their eponymous effort in 2003. It was so good. Sad.
  4. Urge For Going by Crosby and Nash. 1991 cover of a lovely Joni Mitchell tune. Like this very much.
  5. Macy’s Day Parade by Green Day. Marvellous stuff from 2000’s Warning LP.
  6. La Ritournelle by Sébastien Tellier. Christ, this is fantastic, from his 2004 album Politics.
  7. Pennies From Heaven by Frank Sinatra. Beautiful.
  8. LA On My Mind by BNQT. Supergroup, this, with Fran Healey from Travis, plus various Franz Ferdinands, Midlakes and more. Great stuff.
  9. God Said by Todd Rundgren. “I am not really here,” sings Todd, who is really God, “so get over yourself”. Truly magnificent from 2004’s truly magnificent Liars album.
  10. Roll Over Lay Down by Status Quo. And finally, from 1973’s Hello!, comes this all-time Quo classic. Peak Frantic Four.

A close call this week, but my Desert Island Disc is God Said by Todd Rundgren.

Hope you enjoyed that little lot. Have a good week till next week.
