The Friday Music Shuffle (1st September 2023)

Autumn Special

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop pickers and welcome to the first day of the meteorological autumn (cue whingeing about “where was summer? I must have missed that”) and a special Music Shuffle.

Ten tracks from my collection, chosen at random by my music device and I tell you what it’s chosen. Please, please click on the song titles to listen and even sing along. I hope you find something you like!

  1. Sincere by Baxter Dury. Slightly bonkers track from Baxter’s excellent 2023 long player I Thought I Was Better Than You. Dad Ian would be very proud.
  2. Garden by Pearl Jam. Back to 1991 with a belter from Ten.
  3. Daylight by Fun Lovin’ Criminals feat. Rowetta. Excellent joint from 2019’s Another Mimosa.
  4. Master Blaster (Jammin’) by Stevie Wonder. Classic from Stevie’s 1980 LP Hotter Than July.
  5. Beautiful by Girl Ray. And it is. From 2019’s Girl.
  6. Deacon Blues by Steely Dan. From the greatest album of all time, Aja. Music perfection.
  7. Candy Darling by St Vincent. The brilliant Annie Clark from her/St Vincent’s 2021 album Daddy’s Home.
  8. Get Up, Stand Up by bob Marley and the Wailers. Now it’s back to 1975 and Bob’s great Live album for this cracker.
  9. The Day That Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee by The Hollies. Catchy little title, eh, as the boys combine a lot of Creedence Clearwater Revival with a bit of The Sweet. From the 1974 long player, Hollies.
  10. You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry & the Pacemakers. Classic.

This week’s Desert Island Disc was going to be Deacon Blues, until the very last song came on,  You’ll never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers.

Have a good week ’til next week.
