The Friday Music Shuffle (19/7/24)

by Rick Johansen

Good day, all, and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. Here, my music device selects ten songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Click on the title to listen to the music and, should you wish, sing along.

I hope you find something you like.

  1. Anybody Wanna Take Me Home by Ryan Adams. A banger from Ryan’s 2003 album Rock N Roll.
  2. Lucky Star by Madonna. Back to 1983 with a lovely joint from still squeaky voiced Madge’s eponymous first album.
  3. Lady Adventurer by Laure Briard. Gorgeous tune from Laure’s 2023 album Ne pas trop rester bleue.
  4. Pink Moon by Nick Drake. Title track from Nick’s 1972 album, a genius record.
  5. Can We by SWV. R&B brilliance from 1997, featuring Missy Elliott.
  6. Loop De Loop (Flip Flop Flyin’ In An Aeroplane) by The Beach Boys. Probably not what you might expect from the Beach Boys, but it’s rather lovely.
  7. A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square by Ian Hunter. One of the great covers IMHO and I was privileged to see Hunter perform this at the Fleece in Bristol in 2005, as well as many more Hunter/Mott tunes.
  8. It Gets Better (With Time) by The Internet. From their brilliant 2018 album, Hive Mind and of course featuring the great Steve Lacy.
  9. Kokomo by Little Feat. No relation to the Beach Boys song of the same name. A belter from 1979’s Down On The Farm.
  10. Anasthasia by Deep Forest. Great stuff from their 1995 album Boheme.

Tough call for today’s Desert Island Disc but by the shortest of short heads, I’ll go for A Nightingale Sang In Nightingale Square by Ian Hunter.

Have a good week till next week.
