Hi pop pickers and welcome to the pre Christmas music shuffle.
For those unfamiliar with this fun-packed section of my blog, I set my music device free and it chooses ten random songs from my collection and, joy upon joy, I tell you what it has chosen. Please, please listen along, in real time if you can, and you never know: you might find something you like.
Let’s listen to the music!
- God! Show Me Magic by Super Furry Animals. First appearance by Gruff Rhys and his popular beat combo outfit on this shuffle for as long as I can remember. Excellent, from 1996’s Furry Logic.
- Bluebird by Leon Russell. I just love Leon’s music. This from 1975’s superb Will O’ The Wisp.
- Do Something by The Eagles. Dreary filler from the band’s hugely disappointing 2007 album Long Road Out Of Eden.
- Candy by Jackson Browne. Not Jackson’s finest moment, from his otherwise very good 1986 LP Lives In The Balance. That dreadful 1980s drum sound utterly ruins this song for me. Worst decade in music by far.
- Blackckkk by Thundercat Feat. Sounwave. Short and very sweet by the Brainfeeder genius, from his 2017 album Drunk.
- Go Slow by HAIM. The brilliant sisters, from their 2013 debut LP Days Are Gone. Haim is a Hebrew word meaning ‘life’, symbolising health, vitality, and a long existence in Jewish culture, it says here.
- Blues Man by Stephen Stills. Love this joint, from the great man’s 1972 album Manassas.
- Spinning Around by Kylie Minogue. A truly great pop record. Shame Kylie insists on singing in a silly American accent.
- Why You Wanna Try me by The Commodores. Not old Len Ritchie’s finest hour, either. Bit of a theme today. It’s filler from a latter day Motown Chartbusters compilation.
- Fire And Rain by James Taylor. All-time classic from 1970’s essential Sweet Baby James album. Oh, and that’s Carole King on piano.
A bit underwhelming this week, I’d say. My Desert Island Disc as going to be a real problem until the exciting number ten song came along, Fire and Rain by James Taylor.
Have a good week till next week and a Boxing Day special.
