Given that the meteorological winter runs from the 1st December to 28/29th February, today is the halfway point. It’s all downhill to spring now and what better way to celebrate than to ‘enjoy’ this week’s Music Shuffle.
Yes, once again my music device selects ten tracks from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Your only job is to click the title to listen, and maybe even sing, along.
I hope you will find something you like.
- Anthem by N-Joi. Vintage House from 1995. Excellent.
- Hushabye Mountain by Bobbie Gentry. Simply beautiful. The wonderful Ms Gentry’s cover of the … checks notes … Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tune, from back in 1968.
- Happy Talk by Captain Sensible. Unexpectedly brilliant version of the South Pacific classic by The Damned’s Ray Burns.
- Cultural Criminal by Mattiel. Banger from Ms Brown’s 2022 LP 2022 album Georgia Gothic.
- A Running Start by Sufjan Stevens. Unmistakably our Sufjan, at his best from 2023’s Javelin.
- Fever by Dan Kye. Dan Kye is, of course, Jordan Rakei so it’s obviously great. This from ‘Dan’s’ 2020 album Small Moments.
- Ice On The Dune by Empire Of The Sun. Title track of the Aussie chaps’ 2013 LP. Absolute banger.
- Hermann Loves Pauline by Super Furry Animals. Back to 1997 with a joint from Radiator.
- Let’s Work Together by Canned Heat. Now we go back to 1970 for this terrific rocker, a vastly superior version to Bryan Ferry’s insipid Let’s Stick Together.
- I Will (live) by Radiohead. Absolutely fantastic, taken from Hail to the Thief (Live Recordings 2003-2009), which came out last year.
A very tough call for this week’s Desert Island Disc, but after a little bit of soul searching, I’ve gone for Hushabye Mountain by Bobbie Gentry. Better even than Dick Van Dyke’s soundtrack version from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Well, that was fun (for me). Have a good week till next week.
