With just the 15 days of summer remaining, it’s time to listen to some proper sunshiny music. Well, it will be if the random shuffle chooses any. Because that’s what this is: a random shuffle of tunes from my collection. My device chooses ten songs and I tell you what it’s chosen.
Please click the song title to listen to and sing along with the music.
I hope you find something you like.
- Morning Has Broken by Cat Stevens. From rock’s greatest year, 1971, a lovely track from Teaser and the Firecat. Enjoy Rick Wakeman’s glorious piano playing, too.
- Dear Mr Fantasy by Stephen Stills feat. Graham Nash. Yes, the Traffic classic. I think it’s wonderful. Some great guitar from Stills, as ever.
- Leaving Las Vegas by Sheryl Crow. Great joint from Sheryl’s best album, 1994’s Tuesday Night Music Club.
- Out Of My Depth by Hot Chip. Now we’re in 2022 with this belter from the Freakout/Release LP. So good.
- Grace And Danger by John Martyn. Title track of Martyn’s stellar 1980 album.
- Wherever I May Roam by Metallica. Classic Metallica from their eponymously titled 1991 – 1991! – album.
- White Light/White Heat by Lou Reed. IMHO, this joint, from 1974’s Rock n Roll Animal is a vast improvement on the Velvets’ original.
- Silence by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Lovely track from 2022’s When The Lights Go, an album you should all own.
- Candy’s Boy by Bruce Springsteen. Although my respect for The Boss has plunged since he started ripping off his fans by using dynamic ticket pricing, his music is still great, including this track from 2010’s The Promise. “They all do it these days,” is not an excuse, I thought he was better than that, but obviously not.
- For U With Love by Giorgio Moroder. His 2015 album Deja Vu was a stunning return to form. Here’s why.
Although Morning Has Broken by Cat Stevens represented the beginning of his descent into/journey to religious superstition, it’s my Desert Island Disc for this week.
Have a good week till next week.
