The Friday Music Shuffle (15th May 2026)

by Rick Johansen

Greetings, pop-pickers, and welcome to yet another fun-packed music shuffle. Yes, it’s that time when I set my music device free and it selects ten random songs from my collection. As it does so, in real time, I record details of the songs chosen on here and invite you to listen along. All you need to do is click on the song title and turn your speakers up to ten.

I’d love it if you played along. You might even find something you like!

Have fun

  1. King Of The Mountain Cometh by T. Rex. “Du-duluddle, luddle, dau dau,” warbles Marc Bolan on the B side of 1971’s Hot Love. Hmm. Not classic T. Rex.
  2. Circle Of Steel by Gordon Lightfoot. Classic Gord from 1974’s Sundown. Love it.
  3. Post Requisite by Flying Lotus. Wonderful trippy joint from Mr Lotus, taken from his 2019 long player Flamagra.
  4. Every Day Is Yours To Win by R.E.M. Back to 2011 and this beauty from the band’s final album Collapse Into Now.
  5. Mantis by Courtney Barnett. Quite magnificent by our Courtney from her brilliant 2026 album Creature Of Habit. Already a contender for album of the year.
  6. Love Is Only Sleeping by The Monkees. From 1967’s PiscesAquariusCapricorn & Jones Ltd, this gem features mainly Mike Nesmith on lead vocals. Nice.
  7. Cameraman by Field Music. The enduringly excellent Mackems with a track from 2018’s Open Here.
  8. Guide by Steve Lacy. Lacy’s 2019 debut album Apollo XXI was seriously good. Here’s a taster.
  9. Daisy by Melody’s Echo Chamber. Featuring Els Michels Affair, this little beauty comes from Ms Prochet’s 2025 album Unclouded.
  10. Tell Me Why by the Beach Boys. Yes, it’s a cover of an old Beatles song. This one comes from the Beach Boys Party! album from 1965.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Mantis by Courtney Barnett. Make sure you buy Creature of Habit.

Have a good week till next week.
