Hi pop pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. It’s that exciting time of the week when my music device selects ten tunes from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. And if you want to listen or even sing along, then just click on the title.
Hope you find something you like!
- Receptacle For The Respectable by Super Furry Animals. Back to 2001 and a cracker from Rings Around The World.
- Captain Stupido by Thundercat feat. Flying Lotus. And here we go back to 2017 and Thundercat’s long player Drunk for this belter.
- Negative Space by Queens Of The Stone Age. All the way back to a few weeks ago and a great return to form from Josh and the chaps from the album Times New Roman.
- Muted Beatings by Albert Hammond Jr. The always excellent Strokes man with a joint from the very lovely Francis Trouble LP.
- Shelter by The Beach Boys. From their 2012 comeback album That’s Why God Made The Radio, by some distance the worst record they have ever made (and that’s some statement given some of the dross they put out in their later years). Dreadful.
- Jet Airliner by The Steve Miller Band. Classic tune from 1977’s Book Of Dreams album, made even better by a reference to a (Boeing) 707 and the use of the expression “funky shit”.
- Cross To Bear by Barry Gibb. From 2016’s In The Now, it’s pretty good, even if Bazza’s strangulated voice ain’t what it was.
- 6 Underground by Sneaker Pimps. Dreamy trip hop from 1996’s Becoming X album. Lush.
- Peel The Paint by Gentle Giant. Classic prog from 1972’s Three Friends long player. Brilliant.
- In This Camp by Midlake. And finally we return to 2006 from this beauty from the band’s great album The Trials Of Van Occupanther.
It’s flip a coin time for this week’s Desert Island Disc. And the winner is … Jet Airliner by the Steve Miller Band.
Have a good week ’til next week.
