Hi pop-pickers and welcome to my weekly music shuffle.
Having gone directly from a long, hot summer to an even longer cold, wet winter, I need something to lift my drooping spirits so what better than music to lift my soul and maybe yours, too?
So, here we go. 10 songs chosen at random by my musical device. Please do listen along by clicking on the song title.
I hope you find something you like.
- Unknown Soldier (For Jeffrey) by Toto. An excellent Steve Lukather song from the band’s latest and probably last album of new music, 2015’s Toto IV. It’s a tribute to Toto’s late founding member and legendary drummer Jeff Porcaro.
- I’ve Got The Blues by Lyle Lovett. 1994’s I Love Everybody is such a great album and this is one of the best tracks.
- Lost Myself by Jordan Rakei. I’ve seen Rakei live more times than I’ve seen anyone else in recent years. I love his multi-genre crossing music. This from his 2016 long player Cloak.
- Voulez-Vous by ABBA. Title track of their 1979 album. Still sounds great. I always fancied the blonde one. Benny, I think it was …
- If The Wind Blows Towards The Hospital by Field Music. Very short, very bonkers, very good from the Mackems, from their quite brilliant 2020 LP Making A New World.
- Sing Me by Bent. This is gorgeous, from their 2004 album Ariels. I’d forgotten I had this record. Why not try it?
- Moaner by Underworld. Simply magnificent. Originally on their 1999 album Beaucoup Fish, this is an extended version from their compilation 1992 – 2012. In this case, more is more.
- Mystic Highway by John Fogerty. A country-ish tune from the Creedence Clearwater Revival man, taken from his 2013 album Wrote A Song For Everyone. Nice.
- From You (Featuring Joji) by Bonobo. Love this joint from his excellent 2022 album Fragments.
- Your Love Is Good by Sheila & B. Devotion. What a lovely tune from 1980’s King Of The World, powered by Chic.
No obvious stand out for this week’s Desert Island Disc, so after an imaginary ten-sided coin toss, I’ll go with Your Love Is Good by Sheila & B. Devotion.
Well, that was fun (for me). Have a good week till next week!
