Hi pop pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. My music machine chooses ten songs from my collection and I tell you which ones it’s chosen. Should you wish to listen and hopefully sing along, all you need do is click on the title. Exciting, eh?
So, without further ado, let’s rock!
- Good Morning Heartache by Gloria Estefan. I’ve been a big fan of Glorial, as we say in Bristol, and this little beaut, made famous by Billie Holiday, is from 2013’s The Standards long player.
- Home by Teenage Fanclub. Excellent jingle-jangle guitars and harmonies from 2021’s Endless Arcade.
- I’ve Had It Up To Here by Weezer. That classic Weezer sound from 2013’s Everything Will Be Alright In The End. And it will be, honest
- Nothing Even Matters by Lauryn Hill feat. D’Angelo. Back to 1998 for this belter from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which remains one of the greatest albums of all time. Fact.
- 99 by Toto. Obviously, I absolutely love this track from the blindingly excellent 1979 LP Hydra which, to my ears, is all killer and no filler.
- The Motorcycle Song by Arlo Guthrie. From the great 1967 album Alice’s Restaurant, this is amazing.
- Gene Clark by Teenage Fanclub. Another one from Teenage Fanclub, this time from 1993’s Thirteen. This track is named after, and is all about, the Byrds musician who died in 1991.
- Sex On Fire by Kings Of Leon. I was amazed when an obscure band I’d prattled on about for years made their big breakthrough with their 2008 album Only By The Night, from which came this smash hit, as the DJs used to call it.
- Hot Oct. by Flying Lotus. Superb, from 2019’s Flamagra.
- I Ain’t The One by Spoon. 2017’s Hot Thoughts is a terrific album and here’s one of its many top tracks.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is a close run thing but 99 by Toto takes me back to a number of different happy places and therefore it’s this week’s choice.
Hope you found something you liked.
Have a good week ’til next week.
