Let me begin with a simple truth that is currently trending on twitter: #BorisTheLiar. Even his closest allies and colleagues – he has few friends – know Johnson cannot be trusted. His first inclination is to lie and so his second. The bigger the lie the better. Yesterday represented a new low.

I have spent many years trying to convince people that not all politicians are the same. Indeed, many of them are just like us. But now I don’t even believe myself. Johnson changed that. Yet he is still one of the most popular politicians in the land. How so?

How many times have you heard people say, “I love Boris!” “He’s different from other politicians.” “He gets people like us.” Often the very same people who condemn politicians for lying, for being in it for themselves. Yet that is Johnson. It’s who he is.

Yesterday, we reached the latest low point. Johnson announced ‘Operation Moonshot’, a mass COVID-19 testing initiative using technology and capacity that doesn’t exist and costing upwards of £100bn. Yes, you read that right: £100bn. This is for the birds, this is Johnson lying through his teeth. This is Johnson at a time when COVID-19 is back on the rise delivering his usual bullshit and bluster, deliberately creating false hope.

He also lied about the success of NHS Track and Trace. Firstly, the Track and Trace system is run by a for profit company. It is not being operated by the NHS. Contrary to Johnson’s assertions – lies, that is – it has been a costly failure. People can’t get a test, even hundreds of miles from their homes, there are inadequate numbers of home testing kits. People: we are being lied to.

Rather than just read the outpourings of someone who loathes Johnson, research the man yourself. Read what people say about him, examine his claims and assertions, and find out the truth about Boris Johnson. If you like him, ask yourself what you like about him? Is it his incompetence? His lies? His vindictiveness? His narcissism? His sense of entitlement? If you like him because he makes you laugh or that you see him as somehow ‘refreshing’, then get a grip. Johnson is a seriously unpleasant individual, the public face of a project run by the sinister mind of Dominic Cummings that is centralising power in the heart of 10 Downing Street and strangling the life out of what freedoms we have left.
