Apple Radio chooses a playlist for me (7.3.24)

by Rick Johansen

Something different ahead of the regular weekly shuffle, where my music device chooses 10 songs from my collection. This time Apple Radio chooses a selection of tunes they think I would like. I enjoyed it a lot so I thought I’d share it with my loyal reader. Do click on the song title to hear the chune.

Hope you find something you like. I hope I do, too.

  1. Eco Warrior Goddess by Todd Rundgren (feat Steve Vai). Rocking banger from Todd, who is god, Rundgren’s 2022 album Space Force.
  2. Tom Petty’s Gone (but tell him I asked for him) by Kurt Vile. Lush chune from 2023’s Back To Moon Beach.
  3. My Babe by Spoon. The fantastically underrated Spoon from 2022’s Lucifer on the Sofa.
  4. This Isn’t Helping by The National (feat. Phoebe Bridgers). First Two Pages Of Frankenstein was one of the best albums of 2023. Here’s why.
  5. Cradling Mother, Cradling Woman by Fleet Foxes. 2020 for the Foxes brilliant Shore long player. As great as ever.
  6. The Wayfarer by Bruce Springsteen. Much as I find his meek acceptance of dynamic ticket pricing to rip off his own fans totally obnoxious, he still makes great music. This from 2019’s Western Stars.
  7. The Movie by B C Camplight. Brian Christinzio’s The Last Rotation of Earth was also one of the best albums of 2023. Love the bloke.
  8. Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief by Radiohead. 2016’s A Moon Shaped Pool was right up there with their best records. As I said about something earlier, here’s why.
  9. Daft Wader by Damon Albarn. Man’s a genius. This from 2021’s The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows.
  10. Noble by Midlake. This joint from the band’s magnificent For The Sake of Bethel Woods is deeply moving, as well as brilliant. Read this to find out why.

I am going to choose a Desert Island Disc, which is Noble by Midlake.

See you tomorrow with the original shuffle.
