Anyway, I was in the pub last night, having a chat with the lads, telling them about my love life:

“I am automatically attracted to beautiful women. I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss, I don’t even wait and when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything.

No, not really me. You’ve hopefully worked out for yourself that the comments did actually emanate from US presidential hopeful Donald Trump. Yes, you read that right: presidential hopeful Donald Trump. But let us not get too holier-than-thou about these things.
I cannot pretend that I have had a blemish-free existence in my personal life. I am not perfect, none of us are. But would I have ever said anything like that? Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani thinks I would have. “Men at times talk like that,” said Rudy, before adding that they were “horrible remarks – they’re remarks you certainly don’t want to hear from anyone, much less a presidential candidate.”
Quite apart from the gross insult to women, Trump and Giuliani insult men, too. Boys will be boys, they suggest, and part of being boys is to brag in a most disgusting way. I suggest that if the men in their life talk like that then they find new men to talk to.
Perhaps, I have led a sheltered life, but I have rarely come across men boasting of their sexual conquests. It wouldn’t impress me – quite the reverse, actually – and I simply wouldn’t be interested. My experience in life is that the ones who talk about sex the most do it least, buying flash, expensive cars instead to express their manhood. The men who I know talk about other things, depending on which man you talk to. Football is a prime subject, so is music. I have lived in our village for 24 years and visited our local pub on quite a few occasions. Sex does not come between a man and his pint.
As befits an obscenely rich idiot, Trump’s comments on this and about just everything else are a million miles away from the lives of ordinary people. I am no expert on whether men are attractive to women but I would certainly ask Trump’s wife what attracted her to the millionaire Donald Trump. You are no George Clooney, Donald.
