Greetings pop-pickers and welcome to the not-very-famous Friday Music Shuffle.
Here, my music device selects ten random songs from my collection and I tell you, dear reader, what it’s chosen. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to listen and even sing along. All you have to is to click on each song title and the music comes to life, as if by magic.
I hope you find something you like.
- Farmer’s Toast by Fishermen’s Friends. A traditional English folk song by Port Isaac’s Fishermen’s Friends, which coincidentally was the name of their 2010 LP.
- Here Comes Revenge by Metallica. Just a slight contrast to the opening song, then. A banger from 2016’s Hardwired To Self-Destruct.
- Arcadia by Ash. A great tune from Norn Iron’s finest.
- New To Me by the Lemon Twigs. So sweet, from 2023’s Everything Harmony. What a lovely sound.
- Theme From Dr Kildare by Johnny Spence and this Orchestra. WTAF is this doing in your collection, you might ask? Well, I have several albums which include old TV themes and this is one of them. Worst of all, I actually remember it from the 1960s.
- Crack-Up by Fleet Foxes. I adore Robin Pecknold’s wonderful band. This is the title track from their 2017 LP. Beautiful. Those voices.
- No More Mr. Nice Guy by Alice Cooper. Now we go back to 1973 and an absolute classic from Billion Dollar Babies. Love the guitar riff.
- How Do You Sleep by The Stone Roses. While their creative star faded quickly, what a creative star it was. This from 1994’s Second Coming and while this is not exactly a classic, it’s decent enough.
- World Gone Crazy by The Doobie Brothers. Title track from their 2010 album which, wonderfully rhymes ‘city’ with ‘sweaty’. I absolutely love it, obvs.
- That Old Black Magic by Bob Dylan. Well, it’s Bob, isn’ it? Fantastic. From 2016’s Fallen Angels.
This week’s Desert Island Disc, despite there being a Doobies’ song in the shuffle, is No More Mr. Nice Guy by Alice Cooper.
What a shuffle. Where else can you get Dr Kildare, Metallica and Fishermen’s Friends in the same room?
Anyway, thanks for playing. Have a good week till next week.
