The Friday Music Shuffle (7.4.23) – Easter Special

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop pickers and welcome to this Easter Special Edition of the Friday Music Shuffle. For one day only, my music device will select 10 songs from my collection and I will tell you which ones. And should you wish to listen and even sing along, all you need do is click on the song title.

Without further ado, let’s rock!

  1. Dream A Lie by UB40. The B side of the band’s excellent single The Earth Dies Screaming. What a band they were in 1980 and rarely since. Weird albeit well meaning video.
  2. Spanish Moon by Little Feat. Back to 1978 for this belter from Feats Don’t Fail Me Now.
  3. Glamorous by Fergie feat Ludacris. Some quality R&B from back in the day (2007).
  4. Summer by Sum 41. This band basically have one tune and this version of it is called Summer. Like it, mind.
  5. Return by Brian Eno and Karl Hyde. The eclectic combination from 2014’s High Life.
  6. Bulletproof Baby by The Struts. When 2018’s Young And Dangerous album came out, I thought they might be massive, something borne out by their live performance when we saw them in Cardiff. But then they recorded a record with Robbie Williams. A career on the cabaret circuit awaits. Shame.
  7. Madrugada by Mutual Benefit. Cute little instrumental from 2016’s Skip A Sinking Stone.
  8. As Holy As The Soil (That Buries Your Skin) by The Manic Street Preachers. Fab track from their desperately underrated 2013 LP Rewind The Film.
  9. No Stranger by Gentle Giant. I came to Gentle Giant very late, They were amazing. This from 1978’s Giant For A Day.
  10. You Never Arrived by Midlake. And finally back to 2006 for this lush track from The Trials of Van Occupanther.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Spanish Moon by Little Feat.

That’s all, folks!
