The Friday Music Shuffle (6.5.22)

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop pickers and welcome to this week’s music shuffle, that great non-event when I switch on my portable music device and listen as it chooses 10 songs from my collection. I then tell you what they are and invite you to click on the title to sing along. Does life get any more exciting? You’d hope so.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s rock!

  1. Wasps Nest by Nadine Shah. Lovely song from Nad’s excellent 2020 long player Kitchen Sink.
  2. Black Balloons Reprise by Flying Lotus feat Denzel Curry. Quality jazzy hip hop from 2019’s Flamagra.
  3. Slice Of Time by David Crosby. From 2014’s Croz, the great man is still making wonderful new music.
  4. Sad But True by Metallica. Don’t think you’d struggle to work out who this was. Classic rock from 1991.
  5. Talisman by Air. This comes from the French electronica duo’s epic Moon Safari record, released in…1998, incredibly. Still sounds so fresh and dreamy.
  6. Tee Pees 1-12 by Father John Misty. A fun track from Josh Tillman’s alter ego from his 2012 record Fear Fun. Superb.
  7. The Little Girl I Once Knew by Brian Wilson. The chosen version was actually from Brian’s 1999 album Live at the Roxy. This isn’t it, but it’s still pretty damn good.
  8. (Don’t Fear) The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. I always despair when radio shows only ever play one BOC song when they’ve done so many. And what does my shuffle do?
  9. Drive My Car by Dion. The man without his Belmonts with a decent Beatles cover from the Art of McCartney record (which is very good).
  10. Lady Rose by Mungo Jerry. All the way back to 1971 for this classic by Ray Dorset and the chaps. Love the Mungos.

That’s all, folks!
