Good day, all, and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle.
As per usual, my music device selects ten random songs from my collection and I tell you, my loyal reader, what it has chosen. Why not do what I do and listen in real time, by clicking on the song titles in turn and joining the listening party?
Hope you enjoy it and find something you like!
- Fat Mama Blues by Orleans. Yes, the Dance With Me soft rockers with a joint from their ’75 Live Harvard Square LP.
- Dance Through It by Twin Peaks. Great tune from 2019’s Lookout Low. Good band.
- Darling Be Home Soon by The Association. Gorgeous, if slightly overblown, cover of the John B. Sebastian (Lovin’ Spoonful) tune. This is on the band’s quite magnificent 1972 LP Waterbeds In Trinidad. Buy this album.
- Home by Simply Red. Title track of Simply Mick’s 2003 album. Not a popular view, but I think he’s a great singer and this is lush.
- Sunset by Caroline Polachek. Quite simply, the best female singer out there today. This beauty is from her fantastic 2023 album Desire, I Want To Turn Into You.
- Munich by Corinne Bailey Rae. This from a Radio 1 Live Lounge long player from 2013. What a voice.
- Something To Be by Rob Thomas. Another of my very favourite singers, Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas. This the title track from his banging 2005 album.
- Baby It’s You by The Shirelles. An early Bacharach tune from 1961. Lovely.
- I’ll Pick A Rose For My Rose by Marv Johnson. A Motown classic from 1968 from the first artist to appear on Tamla, which preceded the legendary Tamla Motown. So good.
- Lay All You Love On Me by ABBA. Classic ABBA from 1981.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is Sunset by Caroline Polachek, by a country mile.
I loved that and hope you did, too. Have a good week till next week.
