The Friday Music Shuffle (17.10.25)

Holiday special

by Rick Johansen

Sunshine greetings to my loyal reader, as this music shuffle comes from a place many miles away, just off Africa. Nothing, apart from the location, has changed.

My music device chooses ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. The part you play, should you so wish, is to click on the song title and listen, and even sing, along.

As ever, I hope you find something you like!

  1. Song X by Neil Young. The great man with a joint from his 1996 long player Mirror Ball, with his excellent backing band Pearl Jam.
  2. The Raven That Refused To Sing by Steven Wilson. Title track of Wilson’s brilliant 2013 album. This song is all about an old man who is waiting to die. I know the feeling.
  3. Can’t Wait Too Long by The Beach Boys. Sheer beauty from the Smile sessions in the late 1960s.
  4. Drive by R.E.M. Belter from 1992’s Automatic For The People.
  5. What The World Needs Now Is Love Sweet Love by The Isley Brothers and Santana. Ron Isley still hits the notes on  this delightful cover from the 2017 LP Power Of Peace.
  6. Monster Mash by Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett and the Crypt Kickers. Classic.
  7. Glory Hallelujah How They’ll Sing by Bobbie Gentry. Truly wonderful from the great Bobbie.
  8. Another Park, Another Sunday by The Doobie Brothers. From the band’s great 1974 LP What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits.
  9. 99 by Toto. Classic Toto from 1979’s Hydra LP.

I could choose any number of songs for this week’s Desert Island Disc but I’ll go for today’s favourite The Raven That Refused To Sing by Steven Wilson.

Well, that’s it for now. See you next time. Until then, have a good week till next week.
