Greetings pop pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. You know, the one where my portable computer (phone) chooses 10 tracks from my collection, I listen to them, obviously, and then I tell you what it’s chosen. And if you would like to sing along with me, then click on the song title. You know it makes sense.
It’s been a long time since I rock and rolled, so let’s rock!
- Black Is Beautiful by Chronixx. Lovely tune from Jamaica’s desperately talented Chronixx, from his 2017 album Chronology.
- Better Do Better by Hard Fi. When their album Stars of CCTV came out in 2005, I thought they were the next big thing. Turned out they weren’t but this song and album are still bloody good.
- Poor Little Allison by Gordon Lightfoot. Blimey – 1970 was when this came out on his Sit Down Young Stranger LP. The classic If You Could Read My Mind was also on it.
- Heroes and Villains by Brian Wilson. Brian eventually got to complete his long lost Smile album and as well as releasing it, he did the whole thing again with his stellar new band. Pretty damn good.
- We All Stand by New Order. Back to 1983 for this belter from my favourite New Order album Power, Corruption and Lies.
- Avenida Revolucion by Chickenfoot. One of the great supergroups – Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith – with a cracker from 2009’s Chickenfoot album.
- Fear Of Sleep by The Strokes. You know from the first note who this is! And it’s from 2005’s First Impressions of Earth album.
- Kalopsia by Queens Of The Stone Age. From 2013’s Like Clockwork, Joshua teases us with a quiet opening but soon all hell is let loose. Brilliant.
- Twisted by Santana feat. Anthony Hamilton. Brilliant track from Carlos, aided and abetted by the great Anthony Hamilton. What a voice. From 2005’s All That I Am.
- One For The Boys by Brian Wilson. This incredible acapella piece comes from Brian’s first solo album in 1988. It was such a great album.
My Desert Island Disc for this week is the exciting number ten song One For The Boys by Brian Wilson.
That’s all, folks!
