The Friday Music Shuffle (18.2.22)

by Rick Johansen

If you’ve been suffering from the wind today – and who hasn’t? – then what better way to wind down than to enjoy this week’s fun-packed music shuffle. 10 tunes chosen at random from my collection by my portable device and I tell you what they are. And if that’s not enough, you can click on the title and listen/sing along. What could be more fun?

Let’s rock!

  1. Accelerate by REM. Title track of the Accelerate long player released in 2008. Great band much missed.
  2. Slow And Low by The Beastie Boys. From the Boys first, and utterly epic, record Licensed to Ill, released in…gulps…1986.
  3. Out Of Nowhere by Delays. The loss of Greg Gilbert to cancer at the young age of 44 was as big a loss to music as I can remember. This great tune from 2006’s You See Colours.
  4. Original by Leftfield. So chilled from 1995’s superb Leftism.
  5. Overture to the Sun by Terry Tucker. If you have seen Clockwork Orange – and you should have – you might recognise this tune.
  6. I Only Drink When I’m Drunk by B.C. Camplight. Great track from one of 2020’s best albums Shortly After Takeoff.
  7. Every Breath You Take by The Police. This belter came out in 1983. 39 years ago.
  8. Mezzanine by Massive Attack. I’ll never forget the Massive Attack gig at Filton Airfield in 2019. Incredible. They played all of Mezzanine and here’s the title track.
  9. Alucard by Gentle Giant. Classic Prog Rock from 1970’s Gentle Giant. Discovering the band now is costing me a fortune in buying up their entire back catalogue.
  10. Our Prayer by The Beach Boys. A gorgeous, wordless hymn from their 1969 album Friends.

That’s all, folks!
