Hi pop pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. What happens is this. My music device chooses 10 random tunes from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Should you wish to listen and even sing along – and who wouldn’t? – then just click on the title.
Alright fellas, let’s go!
- You And I by Dennis Wilson. Gorgeous track from Beach Boy Dennis’s only solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue, the best solo album by any Beach Boy.
- Romance by Gordon Lightfoot. Disappointing track by Gord from his disappointing 1983 long player Salute, when he seemed to lose his folk music background.
- I’ve Got A Way Of My Own by The Hollies. Back to 1966 for a Graham Nash-heavy tune from the 1966 LP Would You Believe?
- What’s Happened Along In My Life by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. And how it’s some gentle country rock from their 1974 album It’ll Shine When It Shines.
- Song For Emma by Joe Walsh. A desperately sad joint from 1974’s So What? album. It’s all about his daughter Emma who died terribly young.
- Myrhh Song by Georgia Ann Muldrow. A belter from the Brainfeeder X compilation of 2018. Georgia is brilliant.
- Illusion by Jordan Rakei. One of my favourite artists in recent years, with a track from his excellent 2021 album What We Call Life.
- What Is He Thinking by The Streets. Back to 2004 for this cracker from A Grand Don’t Come For Free, featuring Wayney G on additional vocals.
- Hi’way Songs by Gordon Lightfoot. Unlike this week’s drab number two choice, this is classic Lightfoot from his LP Old Dan’s Records.
- Wild Fire Woman by Bad Company. And finally, we head back to 1975 for this rocker from the band’s Straight Shooter LP. Paul Rodgers on tip top form.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is Song For Emma by Joe Walsh because it’s so unlike him, it’s brilliant and it usually makes me cry.
That’s all, folks!
