My birthday music shuffle (26/1/19).

by Rick Johansen

I don’t often do music shuffles late-ish on a Saturday night, but then my birthday only happens once a year and I’m not always quite as tired and emotional as I am right now. So, only one thing to do: a music shuffle.

I have retired to my Man Cave, large glass of Viognier at hand, to do an iTunes shuffle, ten random tunes to celebrate my birthday.

So, welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. Let’s rock!

  1. Live To Tell by Madonna. Simply magnificent from her True Blue album.
  2. Proof of Love by Paul Simon. From his brilliant 2016 Stranger to Stranger album.
  3. Easily by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Nothing exceptional but slightly better than filler for the Californication long player.
  4. Take Me Over by (Stephanie) McKay. A cracker, with serious samples from Dave and Ansel Collins’ classic Double Barrel.
  5. May by Jordan Rakei. New Zealand’s finest musical export with a tune from his essential Wallflower record.
  6. Hanging on the Telephone by Blondie. From the Blondies classic Parallel Lines, a band at or near its peak.
  7. Rainy Day Crossroad Blues by the Doobie Brothers. Classic Doobies, innit?
  8. Late for the Sky by Jackson Browne. Genius.
  9. Fading Away by Hall and Oates. The great blue eyes with a joint from their Our Kind of Soul record.
  10. Fonnovo by Los Amigos Invisibles. Arepa 3000 is one of my favourite records. I know little about the music scene in Venezuela so if there is a better band than this, please let me know!

That’s all, folks!
