At the end of the working week – well, mine was yesterday, but you get the gist! – it’s time for some random tunes chosen from my iPod, belting across my man cave.
Let’s do it:
1. Saturday’s Child by the Monkees. From their brilliant first record called The Monkees, this gem was written by David Gates, he of Bread.
2. Save My Love by Bruce Springsteen. The Promise was a compilation of tunes which never made Darkness on the Edge of Town, which tells you just how good that record was.
3. Beverly Hills by Weezer. Rick Rubin produced the Make Believe album, which is where this top tune comes from.
4. Be My Friend by Free. It’s Paul Rodgers, innit?
5. Finally by Kings of Tomorrow. Not that I know the first thing about Kings of Tomorrow, but I know a classic anthem when I hear it.
6. Fairbanks Alaska by Joe Walsh. From the Songs for a Dying Planet record, Joe borrows some riffs on here from the Stones and AC/DC.
7. Wholy Holy by John Legend and the Roots. The Wake Up record with the mighty Roots enabled Legend to make his career best music. It’s a must have album.
8. Closer to the Heart by Rush. The unmistakable sound of Geddy Lee’s strangulated vocals herald a classic from Canada’s finest.
9. Crush On You by Bruce Springsteen. Shouty rocker from The River.
10. Poison Whiskey by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd remains one of the great debut albums by any band, all killer, no filler.
Have a great weekend!
