Village Thirds win 4-0 at Brandon Sports

by Rick Johansen

The Village Thirds extended their winning streak to three games as they defeated Brandon Sports 4-0 on a sodden Civil Service Club pitch.

The first half was played in torrential rain, with the occasional hail shower, and the pitch was transformed from a very nice little surface to a churned up shambles.

The Village went in 0-0 at half time whereupon ashen-faced supremo Boris laid into his players for what he regarded as a piss poor performance.

With the rain now abating, the village went ahead through the unlikely figure of ‘Big’ (Fat) Jordan Russell who slotted the ball past the opposition keeper.

With Ben Bennett failing to negotiate the puddles never mind the opposition, it was a surprise when Jordan headed in a second.

To be fair, Bennett was playing out of position. He was on the pitch.

Nathan Daniels, playing in front of his father who was unfortunately facing the wrong direction, made it three.

With time running out, Jordan struck again with a left foot tap in from 18 inches to complete a ‘perfect hat trick’. This was either a reaction to Boris’s half time talk or pure luck.

So that’s three wins on the bounce for the Village, 12 goals for, none against.

Lanky beanpole Calum ‘Call me Meaney’ May and alcoholic student layabout Nigel ‘I don’t drink’ Johansen attributed the change in the team’s fortune to themselves.

For Ben Bennett’s outstanding performance, the man of the match award went to Stinky Turner (59).
