The A team registered yet another win tonight, this time against Mangotsfield, meaning that they have now won five of their last seven.
Player of the year elect Stinky Turner was axed by ashen-faced supremo Boris and was reduced to running the line with ‘Goldilocks’ Guy Long assuming the left back berth.
And it was Long who caught the eye in the early stages with some impressive runs down the wing followed by some unimpressive crosses.
With Bispy and ‘Big’ Jordan Russell causing problems for the opposition (and Bennett causing problems for the Gifford), the first half was even.
If the first half was even, the second half was even worse (boom, boom!) as both sides pressed to make the breakthrough.
And it was the Gifford who took the lead by way of an own goal, even though Kieran Hawkins tried to claim it.
Boris decided it was time to make a substitution to make the game safe and he instructed Turner to start warming up.
Whalen and red-faced veteran Longy gave powerful words of encouragement to the grizzled veteran and he took the field on the left hand side of midfield with instructions to tear up and down the left side.
Unfortunately, Turner took the ‘tear up’ bit a little too seriously and just two minutes after coming onto the pitch he reacted to an unsavoury Mango tackle by chinning the young lad. The referee had no alternative but to dispatch Turner to the dressing room following an inevitable red card.
Despite, or perhaps because of, the absence of Turner, the Gifford were the team most likely to score and it was only piss poor finishing from Big Jordan and Hawkins that kept the score to 1-0.
Man of the match – Stinky Turner (59).
