Boris’s A team came back to earth with a large bump as their unbeaten run of four games came crashing to an end against high-flying (ish) Rockleaze.
The Gifford started well, knocking the ball about with aplomb but unfortunately they went a goal down.
The home team’s persistence paid off soon after when Nathan Daniels, whose father for once had not left early to open up the bar, slotted over a lovely cross from the left and ‘Big’ Jordan Russell scored with a spectacular diving header which caused a small earthquake in the village.
Sadly, the visitors led again before the home team were robbed of an equaliser on the stroke of half time when Ben Bennett ‘scored’ only for the linesman to say he hadn’t seen the ball cross the line. Prior to this, the hapless Bennett had executed a brilliant step over from a foot out from the Rockleaze Line. If he had actually kicked the ball, even he would have scored.
True to form, the village were soon 3-1 down after the break before marauding full back Stinky Turner rose like a salmon to head in from a corner. Turner, who turned in a vintage performance, had previously missed with a far easier header.
At 3-2, everything looked on for the village but inevitably they caved in to lose 5-2.
A special mention goes to young Meaney who was hastily moved into midfield late on in one of a series of managerial blunders by Boris.
All in all, a half-decent performance by the Village.
Man of the match – Stinky Turner (59)
