On the most bobbly pitch seen this side of Bobbly Town, the ever-improving first team defeated Ashton 5-3 at the field.
The village three goals came from Vicey, Stephens and Dennis Cox.
At 3-2 to the Village, acting supremo, portly firefighter James Barry, decided to rest Westy to give gangly beanpole Calum Meaney a run out at centre back.
Ashton promptly equalised after a series of blunders in the Gifford penalty area.
Meanwhile, Meaney made up for his defending by ploughing through the back of the opposition number nine.
Barry was by now fuming and his bad mood was made even worse when the visitors managed to kick one of the village lads up in the air. The referee sent him off after a volley of invective and now Barry will be at least £35 out of pocket.
Continuing the game with no manager, Talbot, whose fifty pence head had earlier been sending ball to all corners of the pitch popped up to head in. 4-3.
Talbot then staggered off the pitch with an aching shoulder (all say ahhhhhhh) leaving the home side to complete the match with 10 men, one of whom was octogenarian Mike ‘Aero’ Airs, ‘fresh’ from his outing with the Over 60s side last Sunday.
However, a sweeping Gifford move involving loud-mouthed gobshite Dennis Cox saw Vicey lash the ball home past a stranded visiting net minder.
The man of the match was a difficult decision, between the impressive Vicey and Stephens. As we couldn’t make our mind up, the award goes to Calum Meaney.
