Welcome to the third music shuffle of spring 2025, or the first if you use the astronomical method as opposed to the meteorological version.
The idea is, like me, very simple. My music device chooses ten random songs from my collection and I tell you, my loyal reader, what it’s chosen. Do click on the title to listen to the music.
I hope you find something you like.
- Other Plans by Mattiel. From her lovely 2022 album Georgia Gothic.
- You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Classic BTO and not even the best track on 1974’s Not Fragile.
- Caravan by Blur. Fine joint from the band’s seriously underrated 2003 LP Think Tank.
- The Seer’s Tower by Sufjan Stevens. Well, this is just about perfect, from Sufjan’s brilliant Illinois, released back in 2005.
- The Waste Land by Weezer. Short and not very sweet instrumental joint from 2014’s Everything Will Be All Right In The End.
- Carrie and Lowell by Sufjan Stevens. He’s here again and this time with the title track of his 2015 masterpiece. Magnificent. No record collection is complete without this record.
- Struck By Lightning by Toto. Actual heavy metal from Toto’s 40 Trips Around The Sun LP. Love it.
- Under African Skies by Paul Simon. And now back to 1986. This is a joint from Graceland, one of the greatest albums not just by Paul Simon but by anyone.
- Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While) by The Doobie Brothers. From 1975’s brilliant Stampede album, this cover of the Holland-Dozier-Holland classic is one of the great cover versions. The guitar solo is magnificent.
- Miles by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. A big nod to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Young in particular (Ohio, anyone?) but a banger from 2023’s excellent Weathervanes.
A close call for this week’s Desert Island Disc but it just has to be Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While) by The Doobie Brothers.
Hope you enjoyed that. I did. Have a good week till next week.
