Setting aside the brilliant satirical reply to Piers Morgan’s post on X, there are issues in relation to what the disgraced former newspaper editor and piss poor TV presenter has said. According to Moron, “speculation is running riot all over the world”. “TELL US WHAT CANCER THE KING HAS GOT. WE NEED TO KNOW. IT WILL HELP OTHERS”, is the gist of it. But tell me this, even though you can’t because I’ve switched off people’s ability to reply to stuff: is Moron right? Are we really desperate to know what cancer he has got and how bad it might be?
Full disclosure: when it was announced that King Brian – yes, I am back to the Private Eye nickname – had cancer, which was totally unrelated to his swollen prostate, I did wonder fleetingly what and where it might be. I am no royalist but I would not wish cancer on anyone. Or any other type of illness for that matter. But I would never dream of telling anyone they should reveal all their personal details with the world and her husband. Surely that’s private, even when you’re a king?
And how exactly would revealing Brian’s precise diagnosis “help others”? I’ve thought long and hard before writing what comes next, but here goes. What if the king’s diagnosis was terminal, that the outpatient treatment was just palliative or that it was relieving symptoms and not actually curing anything, that it was about extending life for as long as possible? Imagine the press meltdown? Obviously, I hope none of that is the case but just say it was? How, then, does that “help others”?
Does Moron want TV crews to be admitted to the hospital so we can watch the chemotherapy being administered or whatever it is the king is going through? Because that’s how it seems to me and to him, it’s “untenable” that we are not being told.
Perhaps, I am out of touch, that Moron has his finger on the nation’s G spot and that Brian’s condition is the only thing people are talking about? I have not yet heard a single person mention the subject and even on the pretend world of social media, at least not in my own echo chamber, I see next to nothing about it. What’s the truth?
I’m disinclined to believe a word Moron says, even less so than anything Rishi Sunak might say and that’s how low the bar is. And I’m far from convinced that there is much enthusiasm across our green and pleasant land™ to know the innermost details of the king’s condition. In fact, I’m more inclined to believe in the exact opposite of what he says.
