The Friday Music Shuffle (7.11.25)

Late autumn special

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop-pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle.

Here, my music device selects ten songs from my collection and, for no obvious reason, I tell you what it’s chosen. You have one job and that is to click on the song title and listen, or even sing, along.

I hope, as ever, you find something you like.

  1. Miss The Bliss by Hot Chip. Lovely start to the shuffle with this beaut from 2022’s Freakout/Release.
  2. Self Portrait With Electric Brain by Stereolab. Another banger, this time from 2008’s excellent Chemical Chords.
  3. Tape by Parcels. The Aussies’ self-titled album from 2018 was so good. Right up near the top of my bucket list of bands to see.
  4. Beat For Beatniks by John Barry. Some marvellous stuff from the Bond theme man.
  5. Tu Amor Ya Sabe by Fonseca. Love this tune from 2011. Nice video, too!
  6. I’m So Young by The Beach Boys. Brian Wilson’s falsetto is so lovely on this track from the band’s 1965 album Today.
  7. Seventh Heaven by Beck. Has Beck ever made a bad record? I don’t think so. 2017’s Colors was brilliant.
  8. Wrong Turn by Jack Johnson. Lush joint from the talented Hawaiian singer-songwriter. This from 2005’s Sing-A-Longs & Lullabies For The Film Curious George.
  9. The Spirit Of Radio by Rush. All time classic from 1980’s Permanent Waves LP.
  10. One After 909 by The Beatles. Old style rocker from 1970’s Let It Be. Love it.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is – what else? – The Spirit Of Radio by Rush.

Well, that was fun. Have a good week till next week.
