The Friday Music Shuffle (6.9.24)

Autumn special

by Rick Johansen

Welcome my friends to the show that never ends. Yes, it’s time for that Friday Music Shuffle.

My music device chooses ten songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. You can join in the ‘fun’ by clicking on the song title to listen and, if you feel so inclined, sing along.

I hope you find something you like.

  1. You Are Here by Real Estate. Lovely track from this year’s new album Daniel.
  2. Paper Dogs by Westerman. Some lush music from Ben Westerman’s first album, Your Hero’s Not Dead, released in 2020.
  3. Snakes On Everything by Little Feat. Back to 1971 and the opening track from Little Feat’s eponymously titled first album.
  4. A Song For Barcelona by Jackson Browne. Gorgeous joint from 2021’s Downhill From Everywhere.
  5. Breed by Nirvana. Great stuff from 1991’s epic Nevermind.
  6. Everytime by Lustral (Nalin and Kane Remix 1997). Banging House from, well, 1997, obvs.
  7. Gimme Your Money Please by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Some filler from the otherwise very decent eponymously titled BTO album from 1973.
  8. Is This Music? by Teenage Fanclub. Yes, it is and very (instrumental) good music it is too, from 2018’s Bandwagonesque.
  9. Please Save Me by Sunscreem Vs. Push. Some lush Trance, here, from 2001.
  10. Locomotion by John Coltrane. This is from Coltrane’s classic Blue Train LP from 1957. Wonderful.

This week’s Desert island Disc is Locomotion by John Coltrane.

Thanks for listening. Have a good week till next week.
