Greetings pop-pickers and welcome to the first shuffle of the meteorological winter.
Ten songs from my collection, chosen at random by my music device, and I tell you what it’s chosen.
If you so wish, and I hope you so wish, you can click on the title and listen to and even sing along.
I hope you find something you like!
- Norma by Say She She. Brilliant song, a powerful lyric opposing the decision of the SU Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade. What a great band they are.
- You’re Makin’ Me High (Groove Remix) by Toni Braxton & Foxy Brown. Back to 1996 for this beaut.
- Sometime In The Morning by The Monkees. A Carole King/Gerry Goffin song from their excellent 1967 album More of The Monkees.
- Let It Be Me by Bobbie Gentry feat Glen Campbell. Back to 1969 and a lovely version of this great song. Bobbie was one of my first loves.
- My Way by The Sex Pistols. Simon Ritchie AKA Sid Vicious had virtually no talent, yet this cover of the Sinatra classic truly works.
- Brown Sugar by The Rolling Stones. A true Stones classic from the classic 1971 LP Sticky Fingers. They no longer play it due to the lyrical content, but I haven’t and won’t be.
- Behold The Night by The Beach Boys. This previously unreleased track didn’t see the light of day until 2021’s Feel Flows – The Sunflower & Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971. In the week of what would have been Dennis Wilson’s 80th birthday, here’s a glimpse of his blossoming talent.
- I Want You by Bob Dylan. Classic Bob from the legendary Blonde On Blonde album, released in 1966.
- Groom’s Still Waiting At The Altar by Bob Dylan. And now it’s 1981 and Bob’s album Shot Of Love. I love his rock and blues tunes. This is great.
- Getting Gone by Mutual Benefit. Mutual Benefit AKA Jordan Lee is a criminally underrated artist. And this from 2016’s Skip a Sinking Stone is lush.
A tough call this week but my Desert Island Disc for this week is Brown Sugar by The Rolling Stones.
Have a good week till next week.
