Good day and welcome to the first ever Friday Music Shuffle under a Labour government. For one day only, my music machine will choose ten random tracks from my collection and I’ll tell you what it’s chosen. Click on the title and listen and even sing along.
Hope you find something you like!
- Father Ruler King Computer by Echobelly. King Of The Kerb it ain’t – how could they ever do something that good again? – but it’s still pretty good. From 1994, if you were wondering.
- The Universal by The Small Faces. The magnificent Steve Marriott and co from 1968. One of Britain’s greatest IMHO.
- Sad Pariah by Zervas and Pepper. Lovely track from the Cardiff duo, from their excellent 2019 long player Endless Road Restless Nomad.
- Am by Liquid Mike. From their fine 2024 album Paul Bunyan’s Slingshot, the Michigan rockers on top form here.
- Head On Straight by Ronnie Montrose, Ricky Phillips and Eric Singer Feat. Davey Pattison and Mark Bonilla. Decent hard rock from the late, great master guitar player Ronnie Montrose and some pals.
- Hombre Sin Nombre by Billy Gibbons and the BFGs. Ever think you’d hear the legendary ZZ Top man singing with the assistance of autotune? Well, you do hear on this brilliant joint from Billy’s 2015 LP Perfectamundo.
- How Did You Know by Kurtis Mantronik Feat. Chamonix. Skip back 21 years for this dance floor banger.
- Parental Discretion Iz Advised by N.W.A. Released back in 1988, Straight Outta Compton still sounds as good today as it did then. This is one of the many great joints.
- MEDLEY: All Of My Love/Ecology by The Beach Boys. You may not know this one – I didn’t until I bought the album Feel Flows – The Sunflower and Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971 – but it’s from a time when Dennis Wilson was emerging as a stellar musical talent in his own right. (Fun fact. The co-writer was Daryl Dragon, who was the Captain who made records with Tennille. )
- U Know by Prince. A cracker from 2014’s ART OFFICIAL AGE.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is The Universal by The Small Faces.
Have a good week till next week.
