The Friday Music Shuffle (31.1.25

Last day of January special

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop-pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. For me, every day is a music day but on Friday it’s time for the shuffle. Here, my music device chooses ten random tracks from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. I’m listening to all the tracks as they appear, so why don’t you? I hope you find something you like.

  1. What’s Happened Along In My Life by Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Lively little joint from 1974’s It’ll Shine When It Shines album, which also features Radio 2 favourite Jackie Blue.
  2. Appetizer by DJ Format Feat. Abdominal. Brilliant from 2017’s Still Hungry.
  3. Get It Up by Chickenfoot. Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith – what could possibly go wrong? Nothing. Great rock and roll.
  4. Call It A Loan by Jackson Browne. Simply gorgeous from one of the best singer/songwriters in rock history. From 1980’s Hold Out LP.
  5. Bang Bang My Baby Shot Me Down by Cher. It’s from a 1960s compilation, honest guv. Written by Bono – Sonny, that is.
  6. Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To See Goodbye) by Daryl Hall and John OatesHere the boys cover a Daryl Hall solo track on their 2018 long player Our Kind Of Soul. Proper nice.
  7. Bodhisattva by Steely Dan. Sheer greatness from 1973’s Countdown To Ecstasy.
  8. Down With The Ship by Todd Rundgren Feat. Rivers Cuomo. Ska from Todd and Rivers from Weezer? You bet. From 2021’s Space Force LP.
  9. Crazy Beat by Blur. Minus Graham Coxon, but still excellent. From 2003’s Think Tank.
  10. Between The Lines by Robyn. And finally, we return to 2018 with a belter from her LP Honey. Nice video, mind.

This week’s Desert Island Disc, ultimately decided by the toss of a three-sided coin, is Call It A Loan by Jackson Browne. Apologies to Steely Dan and Todd Rundgren Feat. Rivers Cuomo.

Have a good week till next week.
