Welcome to the first Friday Music Shuffle of 2025.
It’s the same old tired formula. My music machine selects ten random tracks from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. And if you want to listen, simply click on the song title.
I hope you find something you like.
- Half Mast by Empire Of The Sun. Some brilliant Aussie electronica from 2008’s Walking On A Dream.
- Can’t Take My Eyes Off You by Andy Williams. Yes, really. One of the greatest crooners of all time with a classic from 1967.
- Nothing Left To Lose by The Alan Parsons Project. Some lovely old prog from 1980’s The Turn of a Friendly Card. Features Pilot‘s David Paton on bass and the late and criminally underrated Chris Rainbow on lead and backing vocals.
- You Are My Sunshine by Joe Vitale. Jaunty little number from one of my music heroes, taken from his 2008 album Speaking in Drums.
- Child Of Nature (Esher Demo) by The Beatles. An outtake from the 1968 album known as the White Album. You may recognise it as an early version of Jealous Guy!
- I Don’t Want To Hear Anymore by The Eagles. Written by Paul Carrack, this is from the band’s final and patchiest album, 2007’s Long Road Out Of Eden. The usual gorgeous harmonies and expertly played, but frankly very average.
- Sweet Georgia Brown by Gentle Giant (live). Yes, the Harlem Globetrotters theme by one of the great prog bands.
- Time For Livin’ by The Association. I just love harmony bands and few were better than The Association, this from 1968’s Birthday LP. How could you not love a song with the line, “I took off my watch, found I had all the time in the world“?
- 3 Sisters by Waxahatchee. Brilliant track from one of 2024’s best albums, Tigers Blood.
- Gaia by The Bees. Always wonderful, all killer no filler from the Isle of Wight’s finest. Saw them at the Trinity last year and they were great. From 2010’s Every Step’s A Yes.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is the number eight song, Time For Livin’ by The Association because it’s a great record.
