The Friday Music Shuffle (2nd May 2025)

Rovers 3 City 0 35th anniversary special

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. This is where my music device selects ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. What I’d really like you to do is click on the song title, turn your speakers up to LOUD and listen, and even sing, along.

Here goes and I hope you find something you like.

  1. Sunday Morning by Maroon 5. 2002’s Songs About Jane was a terrific record before their inevitable descent into the modern day cabaret circuit. And Adam Levine has a great voice.
  2. Nightingales by Prefab Sprout. Lovely tune from 1988’s From Langley Park to Memphis. What a band.
  3. The Legend of Loch Ness by Barry Gray. This is from an album I have which features the music from the legendary TV show Stingray. Barry Gray = genius.
  4. Do I Stand Alone by Steve Lukather. The Toto man has an illustrious solo career, as per this joint from 2013’s Transition.
  5. Dog Bark Dark by Peter Brewis. Peter is half of the excellent Sunderland band Field Music and this track comes from his 2023 solo album Blowdry Colossus.
  6. Chemical Beats by The Chemical Brothers. And now we return to 1995 for this banger from Exit Planet Dust.
  7. Awaken by Yes. Some epic prog, inevitably weighing it at over 15 minutes, from their classic LP Going For The One.
  8. Apocalypse Dreams by Tame Impala. 2012 now, and a banger from the superb Lonerism.
  9. Time Stand Still by Rush. One of the great rock bands with a joint from 1987’s Hold Your Fire.
  10. Healing Love by Joe Walsh and Amjad Ali Khan. You will barely believe this is a Joe Walsh song, but it is and it is beautiful.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Healing Love by Joe Walsh and Amjad Ali Khan, not least because it is what I need right now.

Have a good week till next week.
