The Friday Music Shuffle (27.9.24)

Last shuffle of September special

by Rick Johansen

Greeting pop-pickers and welcome to the legendary (?) Friday Music Shuffle where I set my music device free to choose ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it has chosen.

Should you wish to listen and even sing along, just click on the song title. I hope you find something you like.

  1. Mykonos by Fleet Foxes. A wonderful track from the band’s 2008 EP Sun Giant.
  2. 21 Ounces by Goldie Lookin’ Chain. The GLC joke wore off years ago but this, from their 2004 album Greatest Hits, is decent enough.
  3. Cheap Thrills (Vocal Club Mix) · Hervé featuring Ny and Plastic Little. Some vibrant House here, with some interesting samples …
  4. Can’t Buy Me Love by The Beatles. Absolute classic from 1964’s A Hard Day’s Night.
  5. Stealaway by Poco. Lovely tune from the band’s 1976 LP Rose Of Cimaron, featuring future Eagle Timothy B. Schmit.
  6. Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) by Green Day. Unmistakably Green Day from 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown.
  7. Bittersweet Me by R.E.M. Great joint from 1996’s excellent New Adventures In Hi-Fi.
  8. California Girls by The Beach Boys. 1965 classic from the Summer Days (And Summer Nights!) album.
  9. November Has Come by Gorillaz. Brilliant from 2005’s Demon Days. The sheer genius of Damon Albarn.
  10. Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. The (instrumental) title track of one of the greatest albums of all time, released in 1966.

By a short head, this week’s Desert Island Disc is Bittersweet Me by R.E.M.

Have a good week till next week!
