The Friday Music Shuffle (26.1.24)

Happy birthday to me special

by Rick Johansen

Greetings pop-pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle on my birthday. Actually, this shuffle was pre-recorded on Wednesday because I shall be in a certain railway museum when I should be shuffling.

Anyway, here’s the shuffle. Ten songs from my collection, chosen at random by my music device. I’ll tell you what it’s chosen and to hear the song and even sing along, you just need to click on the title.

I hope you find something you like!

  1. Eye In The Sky by the Alan Parsons Project. Some classic prog from way back in 1982. Superb.
  2. The Movie by BC Camplight. A great track from Brian’s brilliant 2023 album The Last Rotation of Earth. Such a talent.
  3. Spin Spin Sugar by Sneaker Pimps (Armand’s Dark Garage Mix). 19 bleeding 96 FFS. And it still sounds mint.
  4. Hawaii by The Beach Boys. And it’s back to 1963 for this old Beach Boys classic.
  5. Barbara Ann by The Beach Boys. Two old BBs songs on the bounce.
  6. Wasn’t Born To Follow by The Monkees. Peter Tork sings lead on this great song from 2016’s staggeringly good Monkees album Good Times. It’s a Goffin/King tune.
  7. Flowers In The Rain by The Move. It’s 1967 and the first record on Radio 1 is this one. And I was listening.
  8. Come by Todd Rundgren. 2017’s White Knight is yet another great album by Todd who of course is God.
  9. Strangers In The Night by Frank Sinatra. Well, it’s perfect, isn’t it?
  10. Green Coaster by The High Llamas. One of the most underrated bands of all time, this is from 1999’s excellent Snowbug.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Wasn’t Born To Follow by The Monkees.

I hope you found something you liked.

Have a good week til next week.
